The usual mistake is asking for an MT sleeve without saying the direction. A sleeve marked 2-3 MT is different from 3-2, and buyers should confirm which side fits the machine and which side receives the drill.
Useful RFQ details include inside Morse taper, outside Morse taper, total length, whether a tang slot is required, and whether the sleeve will be used in a tailstock, drill press, milling spindle or maintenance setup.
Morse taper and DIN 2185 style reducing sleeves
Morse taper sizes are commonly written as MT1, MT2, MT3, MT4 and MT5. Reducing sleeves let a smaller Morse taper shank tool fit a larger Morse taper socket. In many catalogs this type of adapter is discussed around DIN 2185 style taper sleeves.
For a clear order, write the sleeve as inside taper to outside taper. For example, inner MT2 to outer MT3. If the buyer uses German-style MK naming, MT2 and MK2 normally refer to the same Morse taper number, but the RFQ should still be written clearly to avoid confusion.
Fit and surface finish affect drilling stability
