Straight holders solve reach and clearance problems
Straight shank collet chucks are often used as extension holders. They can help reach deeper features, avoid fixture interference, or adapt a tool to a holder or spindle setup that accepts a cylindrical shank.
This category should not be quoted only by ER size. The shank diameter, total length, ER series, tool side and machining purpose all decide whether the holder is suitable.
Straight shank size and tolerance matter
The straight shank is the part clamped by another holder, sleeve or spindle setup. Buyers should confirm whether they need C16, C20, C25, C32 or another shank diameter, and whether the application needs a tighter cylindrical shank tolerance. A poor shank fit can reduce rigidity before the ER collet even starts doing its job.
For repeat orders, the buyer should keep the old model code, shank diameter, total length and ER series together. A C20 ER16 holder and a C20 ER20 holder may look similar in a photo, but they do not support the same tool range.
Choose ER extension, side lock or powerful chuck style
ER extension bars are flexible because they accept ER collets for different tool shank sizes. Side lock straight shanks are used for tools with flat shanks where screw locking is preferred. Powerful straight collet chucks are selected when the buyer needs stronger clamping than a light extension holder.
Long reach always increases risk of vibration. Buyers should tell us cutting material, tool diameter, extension length and whether the job is drilling, finishing, milling or deep-hole work. For rough milling, the safest answer may be a shorter and stronger holder instead of a long extension bar.
Runout depends on the full assembly
Runout on a straight collet chuck is affected by the straight shank, the holder that clamps it, the ER nut, the ER collet, the tool shank and the extension length. A long extension magnifies small errors. This is why the RFQ should state the use instead of only asking for the lowest price.
