Choose chuck type by workpiece and setup speed
A 3 jaw self-centering chuck is fast for round or hex stock because the jaws move together. A 4 jaw independent chuck takes more setup time, but it gives more control for square, rectangular, irregular or off-center workpieces.
Hydraulic power chucks are used on CNC lathes where repeat clamping and production efficiency matter. Manual chucks are more common for repair shops, general turning and smaller machine tool accessory orders.
Mounting and diameter must match the machine
Chuck diameter alone is not enough. Buyers should confirm mounting type, back plate requirement, spindle nose or machine model, through hole, jaw style and whether inside and outside jaws are included.
For replacement orders, old chuck photos and back side photos are useful. They help avoid quoting a chuck that looks right from the front but cannot mount to the machine.

Through-hole size matters when the workpiece or bar stock must pass through the chuck. Mounting may involve a back plate, direct mount, threaded spindle, camlock or other machine standard.
If the buyer cannot identify the mounting standard, send a back-side photo, spindle nose photo, old chuck model and machine model. This usually prevents the most expensive mistake in lathe chuck orders.
Accuracy and speed requirements change the quotation
A general manual chuck, a higher accuracy chuck and a hydraulic power chuck are different purchasing levels. If the buyer needs production turning, higher spindle speed or more stable repeat clamping, the RFQ should state speed, balance, runout and jaw requirements before price comparison.
